Oregon fans have plenty of big wins to choose from, but the 2012 Rose Bowl carries a special kind of weight. When the Ducks beat Wisconsin 45–38 in Pasadena, it was the program’s first Rose Bowl victory in 95 years. Chip Kelly put it simply after the game: “It’s been 95 years since you could say: Oregon Ducks, Rose Bowl champions.” If you are designing a custom Oregon Ducks jersey, that game is full of numbers worth borrowing.
A Record-Setting Shootout
The 98th Rose Bowl turned into one of the highest-scoring games in the event’s history:
- The 83 combined points were the most ever scored in a Rose Bowl, passing the 80 put up in 1991.
- The 14–14 first quarter and 28–28 first half were also the highest-scoring in Rose Bowl history.
- It was Oregon’s first postseason win under Kelly.
The Players Who Made It Happen
De’Anthony Thomas
The freshman scored on a 91-yard run in the second quarter, the longest scoring run in Rose Bowl history. He added a 64-yard touchdown run early in the second half and finished with 155 rushing yards.
LaMichael James
In what was likely his final college game, James ran for 159 yards and an early touchdown.
Darron Thomas and Lavasier Tuinei
Quarterback Darron Thomas threw three touchdown passes. Two of them went to Tuinei, who caught eight passes for 158 yards and was named Oregon’s offensive player of the game.
The Final Two Seconds
Wisconsin had one last chance. Russell Wilson got the Badgers to the Oregon 25 and spiked the ball with what looked like two seconds left. A video review showed time had already expired, and the Ducks had their trophy.
Number Ideas for a Custom Oregon Jersey
- 95 for the 95-year wait.
- 45 for Oregon’s points.
- 91 for De’Anthony Thomas’s record touchdown run.
- 83 for the record combined score.
- 12 for 2012, the year the drought ended.
Name Ideas
- ROSE BOWL fits on most nameplates and needs no explanation in Eugene.
- PASADENA works for fans who were at the game.
- Your own last name with 95 or 12 keeps it personal and still tells the story.
Picking a Design
Oregon is known for changing its look often, so the style choice matters as much as the number. The jersey pictured above, a Dillon Thieneman No. 31 2025 “Shoe Duck” design, is one example of how far Oregon designs can go. If you prefer a player jersey over a custom one, the store’s Oregon section has pages for names such as Bo Nix and Troy Franklin. There are also separate custom pages for Oregon basketball and baseball.
When you are ready, start on the custom Oregon Ducks jersey page, choose a style and add the number that best fits your Rose Bowl memory.
