46-41 in Tuscaloosa: Joe Burrow’s 2019 Win and His LSU Jersey

On November 9, 2019, LSU went into Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama 46-41. Joe Burrow completed 31 of 39 passes for 393 yards and three touchdowns, and the win ended Alabama’s 31-game home winning streak. For many LSU fans, that day is a highlight of the Burrow era, and it is worth knowing the details before you pick one.

How the Game Unfolded

LSU, No. 1 in the AP poll, led 33-13 at halftime. Alabama, No. 1 in the coaches poll, came back hard behind Tua Tagovailoa, who threw for 418 yards and four touchdowns, and DeVonta Smith, who caught seven passes for 213 yards. LSU held on. Burrow’s three touchdown passes went to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall Jr.

Edwards-Helaire may have been the story of the day. He ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns and caught nine passes for 77 yards and another score, four touchdowns in all. LSU outgained Alabama 559-541 and left at 9-0, 5-0 in the SEC.

Why This Game Belongs on Your Jersey Shortlist

Burrow’s 2019 season has plenty of famous moments, but the Alabama game is the one that turned an unbeaten start into a real title run. If you watched that game, a Burrow jersey can be a reminder of that day rather than the bowl games that came later.

Choosing Your Burrow No. 9

Burrow wore No. 9 at LSU. The product photo above shows a design labeled “2020 National Champions” in purple, which refers to the title game LSU won in January 2020 to finish that season. A few things to think about:

• Purple is a bold, easy-to-spot choice.
• White is the color LSU usually wears at home in Tiger Stadium.
• Gold makes a good second jersey if you already own purple.

Pairing It With a Teammate

The Alabama win was a team effort, which makes it a good excuse for a matching set. A Burrow No. 9 paired with an Edwards-Helaire or Ja’Marr Chase jersey covers two of the players who scored that day. If you are buying for a family, splitting the names among siblings is an easy way to tell the story of the game.

Display Idea

For a framed jersey, add a small printed card with the key line: “Nov. 9, 2019 — LSU 46, Alabama 41. Burrow 31-of-39, 393 yards, 3 TD.” It turns a player jersey into a keepsake tied to one specific game.
